Challenges in Indonesia in achieving sustainable development include data governance, especially geospatial data. In addition, there are also challenges in strengthening the analysis and studies needed to support policy making in Indonesia. Starting from the similarity of thoughts and goals of the founders to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in Indonesia and the need to answer these challenges became the driving force behind the establishment of the Lokahita Foundation.
The form of a research institution was chosen by the Lokahita Foundation so that it can provide references for answers to these challenges through accountable research. The independent nature of the institution was also chosen so that it can be more flexible and inclusive in collaborating with various parties, both with government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and the community who are important parties in achieving sustainable development in Indonesia. So, in 2020 the Lokus Bijak Hijau Lestari Foundation or Lokahita Foundation was established.
